"Music is... so rooted in math and science that it seems to make sense to trust computers with it. Harmonies are measured in pitch ratios, time is subdivided into precise fractions, and equations can determine whether tones will be pleasing or dissonant to our ears."
Composer / computer scientist, David Cope, has created a computer program named "Emily Howell" that is capable of composing original music almost by itself. Provide Emily with some source material, including classical works by Bach, Beethoven, and Brahms, and she can compose an endless supply of original music that sounds similar to the songs she was fed. What do you think, does this music have "soul"?
