Bob Dylan's Copyright Extension Album

You probably can't buy it.

The New York Times reports on a recent Bob Dylan album released for the purpose of extending the copyright terms of several of the singer's songs. "The 50th Anniversary Collection", subtitled "The Copyright Extension Collection, Vol. 1" (great, there's more to come) is only available in a few European countries - where copyright terms are shorter than the U.S. - and where only 100 or so copies have been made available.

But Dylan's label, Sony, is not alone in this effort. Universal has also released "Motown Unreleased 1962", a collection of R&B albums that also "makes a large body of its unissued archives eligible for the European copyright extension."

Hopefully this isn't the beginning of a trend, but at least these companies weren't around in Mozart's time.
